Zombie Cupcakes

How about some of these gruesome goodies for Halloween? You’ve got green, decaying zombie hands popping up out of the dirt right in front of a headstone and it’s all on top of a cupcake. These are the perfect blend of gross, fun and yummy.

These would be great to make for a kids’ Halloween party. They’ll be amused by the decoration and they’ll love the cupcake.

Here’s What You Need To Make Them

3/4 cup cocoa powder
3/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup sugar
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup sour cream

Here’s How You Make Them

Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees.

You’re going to need two mixing bowls. In the first one, mix together the cocoa powder, the flour and the baking powder. In the other bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Add the eggs and sour cream and beat it all together really well. Add in the vanilla.

Now with your mixer on a low speed, slowly mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until it’s all well mixed and smooth.

Pour your batter into your muffin cups and bake for 20 to 25 minutes.

This recipe makes 12 cupcakes. If you have a lot of hungry zombie gobblers, you can double the recipe.

And Now To Decorate Them

As soon as your cupcakes have cooled enough, frost them.

To make the dirt on top of the cupcakes, you can use a couple of different methods. You can either make crumbs out of a little bit of cake or you can crumble up some chocolate sandwich cookies. Whichever you choose, stick a layer of crumbs to the frosting.

For the gravestone, take one of the Snackwells cookies and split it apart. Scrape off the white filling. (Feel free to eat said white filling.) Then stick the wafer into the cupcake. The reason I chose Snackwells is because they’re oblong rather than round like an Oreo. But you can use a round cookie if you like. You’ll just have shorter, stubbier gravestones. You can also use graham crackers and break off the corners to make them more rounded.

Then you just stick a zombie hand in each one and you’re done.

Halloween Cupcake Liners
